11th Annual Youth Scholarship Luncheon

July 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Free – $200.00
Dr. Gray, Black Achievers Scholarship Committee member

The Youth Scholarship Luncheon hosted by the Black Achiever Society of Greater Kansas City is a cornerstone event dedicated to advancing educational and professional opportunities for black professionals and youth in the region. Through this annual fundraiser, the Society aims to uphold elevating the standard of excellence and positively impacting the community.

At the heart of the event are the youth scholarship recipients, who represent the future leaders of Greater Kansas City. By recognizing their achievements and providing financial support, the Society empowers these students to pursue their academic and career goals. The Luncheon also serves as a platform for inspiring keynote speakers and panelists to share insights and experiences that honor the legacy of past leaders in various fields, including industry, technology, and education. Their stories serve as beacons of inspiration for the next generation of achievers.

This year’s theme will focus on charting “Paths to Success” with featured speaker, founder, and publisher, Eric Wesson.

Eric Wesson is a Kansas City native who has led a diverse and impactful career. He served in the United States Marine Corps for six years, with postings at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Marine Barracks White House. After his military service, Eric pursued higher education, earning degrees in Political Science and Clinical Psychology with a focus on Early Childhood Development.

Following his passion for education, Eric worked as an elementary school teacher in the Kansas City, Missouri School District for five years. He later transitioned into journalism, starting as a reporter for the Kansas City CALL newspaper. His dedication and talent led him to the positions of Managing Editor and Publisher until June 2023.

In June 2023, Eric embarked on a new venture by launching Next Page KC, where he serves as the founder and Publisher. Committed to community service, Eric is actively involved in various organizations. He chairs the Board of Directors for Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ and also serves on the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Museum Foundation.

In his personal life, Eric is a loving husband to Candance J. Wesson and a devoted father to Amanda Bradley, Brianna McNeil, Erica Wesson, and Eric Wesson Jr. He cherishes his role as a grandfather to Vincent IV, Theodore, and Delila. Through his professional endeavors and community involvement, Eric Wesson continues to make a significant impact in Kansas City and beyond.
