Dr. Jennifer Collier

Dr. Jennifer Collier is the Superintendent of Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS), bringing 25 years of dedicated service to the district she proudly calls home. A lifelong educator and leader within KCPS, Dr. Collier has served in a wide range of roles, including teacher, assistant principal, principal, Chief Human Resource Officer, and Deputy Superintendent. Her deep institutional knowledge and unwavering commitment to student success have made her a trusted leader and change agent within the district and the broader Kansas City community.
Dr. Collier holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, a Master of Arts in Education from Avila University, and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from UMKC in 2018. Her academic and professional journey reflects a lifelong pursuit of excellence in public education and a deep belief in the transformative power of leadership grounded in equity.
Throughout her career, Dr. Collier has fostered lasting relationships with students, families, educators, and community members. She has been instrumental in driving improvements across KCPS—from increasing student attendance and raising academic performance to recruiting and retaining top-tier talent. Her approach is firmly rooted in culturally responsive practices and the belief that every child deserves access to a rigorous, equitable education. One of her most urgent priorities is ensuring that all KCPS students become proficient readers, recognizing literacy as both a foundational right and a passport to lifelong opportunity.
Beyond her work in education, Dr. Collier is a committed civic leader. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and The Links, Incorporated. She lends her voice and expertise through board service with several influential organizations, including the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Lead to Read KC, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, the Royals Foundation, the Kansas City Public School Retirement System, and University Health.
Dr. Collier is honored to lead KCPS into its next chapter and remains guided by the belief that the district’s brightest days lie ahead. Her leadership reflects a steadfast dedication to equity, excellence, and the boundless potential of every student.
