Mwjuma plans to attend Rockhurst University. “A native of Tanzania came to the United States in 2016. Inspired by my grandmother’s eye problem has given me the passion to major in Optometry to help cure elderly individuals to see again.”

Brianna plans to attend Kansas State University. “My dream profession of working with animals and even making art. I currently volunteer at “Unleashed Pet Rescue” and the Humane Society.”

Robert plans to attend Howard University. “The most important value to me is respect. This philosophy aligns with my commitment as a member of the Urban Rangers program. As a Student Board member of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank, this leadership program has educated me on banks and their role in the economy and personal finance and given me insight into becoming a successful businessman in the future.”

Tiyani plans to attend Florida A&M or the Xavier University of Louisiana. “I desire to become an obstetrician-gynecologist to assist with common preconceptions and bigotry about black women and their birth experiences. I want to make a change for women and the inequitable treatment, whether it be an at-home or in-hospital experience.”

Ms. Samara Sayid

Samara plans to attend the University of Missouri—Kansas City to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. “I am great with children and have always wanted to help them. I want to go into Pediatric nursing to support children during the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I want to give my communities the resources and help we need. I am working on a Youth program for girls in middle and high school called Circle of Sisterhood that will launch next year. It will connect with girls positively.”

Nyasia plans to attend Prairie View A & M to study business. “I want to help athletes, employ minorities, and empower the community. Attending an HBCU will provide me with the experience of being in a school full of black excellence.
